Challenge Asphalt History
We take every challenge head-on. That was our mission in 1961, and it remains the same today. When our founder, Dewayne Copus, first started Challenge Asphalt, he’d load his pickup truck and trailer with drums and seal coat and look for local homes and businesses in need of asphalt services. His perseverance paid off as Challenge Asphalt gained traction and became the leading paving company in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Today, Dewayne’s oldest son, Mike Copus, and grandson, Kurt Copus, now lead the helm and drive his legacy forward with our crew of 20 expert pavers. As we’ve grown to one of California’s top asphalt paving firms, we’ve remained committed to Dewayne’s original vision.
